The purpose of the oil skimmer net is to remove slight oil film from open water surfaces being so weak that it is unseen for traditional absorption booms and mechanical skimmers.
The oil absorbing net can cover large water surfaces. The waving of open water moves the oil inside the small openings where it is absorbed in the material of the net. Oil absorbing capacity of the net is about 10 kg/kg, or 1.8 kg/m2.
The net is constructed of 1,6x1,6 m cells. Cells are connected into units of 4 with colour velcros, keeping the correct structure. The net is adequately stable, keeping form and size on wavy water. It is possible to cover an arbitrary water surface by connecting several units. The corners of the net must be fixed. The net can be left out on water for several weeks if needed.
